Azerbaijani female chess players take the lead in the European Women’s Chess Championship 2022 in Prague

Azerbaijani chess players Gunay Mammadzade and Ulviyya Fataliyeva scored 2 points after leading two rounds in the 22nd European Women’s Chess Championship 2022 held in Prague, Czech Republic.
Fellow Azerbaijani chess players Gulnar Mammadova and Laman Hajiyeva scored 1.5 points, while Govhar Beydullayeva won one point, Khanim Balajayeva and Sabina Ibrahimova each scored 0.5 points respectively.
The championship, which will run until August 31, brought together 125 players from 27 European countries, including 23 female grandmasters, 28 female international masters, making a total of 108 titled players.
The Swiss system event consists of 11 rounds, with a time control of 90 minutes for 40 moves plus 30 minutes for the rest of the game with a 30 second increment per move, starting at / move one.
The European Women’s Individual Chess Championship 2022 is a qualification event for the FIDE Women’s World Cup 2023. According to FIDE rules and the decision of the ECU Council, 9 players will be qualified. The total prize fund of the event is 60,000 euros with 10,000 reserved for the winner of the event.
