KSWR Chess Players Excel in Championship

King’s School West Rand took part in the annual Gauteng Provincial Chess Championships on Saturday June 18th. The event took place at Gauteng North Wrestling Hall in Menlo Park, Pretoria.

“We had five individual representatives at this prestigious event,” explained Sheila Kennedy, Deputy Director of KSWR.
With over 800 attendees, they endured a long, exhausting day, with the awards ceremony not ending until 10:00 p.m.

They all played five rounds and their results are as follows:

Girls U/11: Samara Uwakata – won two and a half matches out of five

Girls U/11: Samantha Uwakata – won four out of five matches and placed 11th overall in her age group

U/11 Boys: Mzwandile Masuku – won three out of five games

U/15 Boys: Khodi Nwedo – won five out of five matches and finished second overall in his age bracket

U/18 Girls: Mia Beckmann – won three out of five matches

“We are extremely proud of our chess players who have qualified to represent our school at this level, and would like to congratulate them on their fantastic results. We commend them for their dedication and commitment as they are all busy with exams. Special congratulations to Khodi on being selected to represent Gauteng at SA Championship level. We praise God for the opportunities given to our children to glorify Him by excelling with the gifts He has blessed them with,” Sheila concluded.
