Olympia Park chess players qualify for championships

Chess learners from Olympia Park School took part in the Gauteng LSEN School Chess Tournament held at Roodepark School on August 19th.

First U17 player Lulamile Dyini along with U19 player Christo Lubaxa, Katlego Kopa and Mpumelelo Ndlovu (front) represented their school in the chess tournament.

The Gauteng LSEN School Chess Tournament is contested individually by learners from various schools.
From Olympia Park School, 11 out of 20 learners were chosen to show off their skills at the South African Junior Chess Championships.

First place in the U17 age group was won by Sizwe Masina and Lulamile Dyini.
The school chess players who reached the top 15 are Gift Mbata, Praise Ngema, Matthew Matman, Lulamile Dyini, Jacques Aukamp, ​​Sizwe Masina, Christo Lubaxa, Pieter Buys, Katlego Kopa, Mpumelelo Ndlovu and Jay- T van der Merwe.
“We are extremely proud of our learners’ success in the tournament,” said educator Laurika Lazarides.
