Ugandan junior chess players target slots for 2022 African encounter in Algeria

Uganda National Junior Chess Championship 2022:

  • U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, U-17 (Girls and open categories)
  • 25e – 27e August
  • At the Kiwatule Recreation Center
  • Time control: 1 hour and 10 seconds (3 rounds per day)
  • Round 1: 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
  • 2nd round: 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m.
  • Round 3: 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Everything is set for the Uganda National Junior Chess Championship 2022 which will take place on the 25the August at the Kiwatule Recreation Center.

It will be gray matter for the different youngsters since the general titles of the best girl and the open category will be awarded.

For the girls, the battle will take place in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17.

For the open category, the juniors will also compete in U-7, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15 and U-17.

Fresh off the Big Win Glamor 2022 Rapid Chess Tournament at Old Kampala Secondary School, the juniors will compete in the battle for the top honours.

The stars of the Big Win Rapid Championship were; Mulwanyi Kiwanuka, Tosha Toran and Shalon Nalwanga (U-8).

Those in U-10 were Kiyan Alpesh Hirani, Mugambe Kiwanuka, Dara Tendereza and Christess Nandagire

In the U-12 file, there are Shoubhith Omprakash and Joan Nakazi.

Sana Omprakash and Haggai Mawejje will lead the U-14 cast.

For the U-16s, William Ssetimba and Mary Kevin Ndagire will carry the flag high.

Dara Tendereza will play in the U-10 age category

The winners of the general classification (open and girls) will smile with two trophies and medals for the winners in each age group.

Also at stake will be places for the overall winners of the Ugandan team at the 2022 African U-20 Junior Championships in Algeria from 12 years old.e at 20e November.

Additionally, the winners of the various age groups will represent Uganda as official players of the 2022 Individual African Schools Chess Championship (Girls and Open) to be held in the city of Monrovia, Liberia, from 10e at 18e December.

Shiloh Tandeka will compete in the U-14 category

The deadline for registration is 24e August 2022, according to key contact Ezekiel Masiko.

The event is organized by the Uganda Chess Federation (UCF) along with Shs. 30,000 as registration fee per player.

There are three rounds per day for all players, each round lasting 1 hour and 10 seconds.

Round 1 will be played between 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. This will be followed by Round 2 (12:00-2:00 p.m.) and finally Round 3 (3:30-6:00 p.m.).
